Brigadier General Robert V. Taylor

46th Military Police Command, Commander/Assistant Adjutant General-Army, Michigan Army National Guard

Brigadier General Robert (Bob) Vern Taylor assumed command of the 46th Military Police Command on 1 June 2004. He is also the Assistant Adjutant General for Army, Michigan Army National Guard, and Chief Deputy Director, Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, State of Michigan since July 1, 1993. He is responsible to The Adjutant General for the supervision of administration, logistics, training and mobilization readiness of the soldiers in the Michigan Army National Guard. As Commander of the Military Police Command he provides direction for all activities in the command; facilitates strategic objectives and policies to ensure effective and efficient accomplishment of command missions. He is required to enhance the development of the command into a cohesive, effective, combat ready unit, capable of being deployed on short notice.

General Taylor began a full time military career on August 18, 1966 when he enlisted in the Michigan Army National Guard. He served less than three years as an enlisted soldier and was employed in various assignments with the Combined Support Maintenance Activity and United States Property and Fiscal Office. Upon graduation from the Michigan Military Academy, he accepted a commission in 1969 as a Second Lieutenant, Military Police Corps. In January 1970, General Taylor was selected to be the full time Command Administrative Officer of the 1st Battalion, 119th Field Artillery, and served in the positions of S-1 Adjutant, Battery Commander, Liaison Officer and Fire Support Officer. He transferred to the 72nd Support Center, Rear Area Operations, in January 1978, to become the Security Plans and Operations Officer. In December 1978, General Taylor was selected to command the Recruiting and Retention Division of the Michigan Army National Guard and transferred to Headquarters, State Area Command. He became Director, Army Personnel and Administration, in October 1984; Director, Plans, Operations, Training and Military Support, in December 1987; and Command Administrative Officer and Chief of Staff, Michigan Army National Guard, in November of 1989. He was promoted to Brigadier General on 1 July 1993 and assigned as Assistant Adjutant General for Army. He concurrently commands the 46th Military Police Command.
